Kalachan (60) who was injured in a clash between two groups over land grabbing at Madan in Netrokona, died while undergoing treatment. The deceased was identified as Kalachan Madan, a resident of Dakshinpara village in Sadar upazila.
He died at Mymensingh Medical College on Tuesday (December 15) at 7.30 pm. Additional Superintendent of Police Khaliajuri Circle Md Jamal Uddin confirmed the matter on Tuesday night.
Citing relatives, he said a clash took place at noon in the haor in front of Dakshinpara village in Madan union of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon. At least 20 people were injured.
Sujan, Nur Mia, Abul Kalam, Helal, Jikul Mia, Ashiq and Akkas along with seriously injured Kalachan were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment in critical condition. Kalachan later died while undergoing treatment. The other injured have been treated at Madan Hospital.
According to police and eyewitness sources, for a long time there was a dispute between the supporters of Tajul Islam, a heroic freedom fighter of Madan Dakshin Para village, and the people of former UP chairman Rahish Miah of the same village. Four days ago, Boro planted paddy on 1 acre 45 per cent of the land bill of Manik member of the heroic freedom fighter Tajul Islam.
Later in the afternoon, more than a hundred people of Rahish Mia’s party tried to take possession of the land by destroying it with sharp weapons. The clash took place in front of the police as the people of Manik member obstructed it.
After receiving the news, Madan police took position near the planted land since morning. Currently there is extreme tension in the area. Additional police have been deployed in the area.
Police also said that legal action would be taken if a written complaint was received in this regard.
