The bridge is located at Dariapur village on Shankharidaha Bazar link road in Harinakundu upazila of Jhenaidah. Lack of a bridge has caused thousands of people to suffer. People from several villages used the bridge. However, the concerned authorities did not budge.
Hundreds of people used the road from Nagarbathan Bazar in Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. It has been lying like this for almost a year due to lack of construction. The people of this region have to move at the risk of their lives.
Small and big accidents often happen while moving. In pursuit of livelihood, the villagers are using this route to travel to Harinakundu Upazila and other district towns.
Rickshaw, easybike and Nachimon drivers are suffering the most while traveling on this road. They have a long way to go. Locals said the bridge collapsed the day after the storm. But nothing has happened yet.
Helpless, the locals are making a bridge with bamboo and moving at risk. However, LGED officials who built the bridge said they were aware of the matter.
In this regard, Harinakundu Upazila LGED Office Deputy Assistant Engineer Liakat Ali said, a letter has been sent to the head office highlighting the need to build the bridge quickly. The bridge will be built if allocated.
