Juba League leader Abdul Hamid Sarkar Hamidul has raised 90 percent of the work bill even though he did 80/75 percent of the work. As the construction work has not been completed for a long time, there has been anger among the teachers and students. However, the contractor Abdul Hamid Sarkar Hamidul claimed that all the original work has been completed. There is only some brick work left.
It is learned that under the Local Government Engineering Department (LGED), a contractor named Vijay Kumar Sur was given the responsibility of constructing the school building at a contract price of Tk 79,69,784 in the 2018-19 financial year. Hatibandha Upazila Juba League president Abdul Hamid Sarkar Hamidul bought the work from him.
The construction of the school building started two years ago but it is not over yet. Low quality bricks have been used in the construction work. Although 80/75 percent of the work has been completed, the then LGED office has managed to implement 90 percent of the work and has raised a bill of Tk 61 lakh 7 thousand, said Hamidul. LGED issued notices to the contractor several times to complete the construction work but no work was done. The Department of Local Government Engineers (LGED) is in trouble as the work has not been completed for a long time.
In such a situation, when the school opens, the students have to take classes under the open sky. The headmaster of the school Nurnabi Islam is worried about this. The headmaster said, I don’t know why the work has not stopped for a long time. Talking to the contractor’s people more than once, the construction work is not being completed.
Vijay Kumar Sur, the main contractor for the work, declined to comment on the phone. However, Juba League president Abdul Hamid Sarkar Hamidul claimed that he was doing the work himself and said that all the original work had been completed. There is only some brick work left. I will finish the construction work when new bricks come out.
Hasedul Islam, assistant engineer at LGED, who is in charge of supervising the work, said 80/75 percent of the construction work has been completed. The contractor is being pressured to complete the construction work.
Hatibandha Upazila Engineer Nazir Hossain said the contractor had been given extra bills on the promise to complete the work so that the allotted time would not be returned. We are in contact with contractor Abdul Hamid Sarkar Hamidul. When the new brick comes out, you will do the rest. Notice has been given to the contractor to complete the work. A copy of which has also been given to the local MP.
